Two of your articles brought back memories to me. "Floor Shine" because I remember so well the smell of my mother usings Johnson's paste wax. Later when she got sick, I would wax the floor for her and it brings back bitter sweet memories.

When I read "Betty Jean's Birthday Blunder" I laughed out loud, because I, too, wanted a birthday when it was not my birthday and told all my school friends and they showed up at my house to my mother's surprise! I was mortified, I thought I was the only one to do such a silly thing! 40 years later I ran into an old school friend and she reminded me and I was embarrassed all over again!

The article by Lois Bruce about having the mumps for her 8th grade graduation brought back memories!

On June 22, 1958, I was graduating St. Joseph's School in The Bronx, NY.

The previous week I had been exposed to measles and was told I probably would get them, but nothing was going to stop me from graduating!

Needless to say, I had a fever and looked awful but with no spots on graduation day. I gamely went through the Mass and the ceremony, even posing for the class picture on the church steps.

Instead of a party though, I immediately went home to bed and the doctor coming to the house - yes, they still did that! I was confined to my darkened room for 10 days. Not being allowed to indulge my passion for reading, I resorted to listening to records on my new phonograph.

Thanks to the kindness of family, I received several new albums (which I still have!) and learned to appreciate Benny Goodman, Edvard Grieg, and Broadway shows.

All in all, it was a memorable experience but I would never do it again!

Thanks for the memories!
